The Ancient Greeks were polytheistic. They had an interesting religion filled with myths of greek gods and goddesses. In these myths greek gods and goddesses had powers that controlled natural events and taught morals or stories about the ways of the gods. These myths often had a lesson to be learned. Some lessons were not to anger the gods or make them mad, and others were to teach lessons to children. These gods not only looked like humans but also had human characteristics. They had the same emotions as humans such as love, anger, jealousy, and envy. They also never grow old or die as they are immortal. The Greeks sometimes asked the gods for advice and help. The gods were part of their daily life and they dedicated festivals and sporting events to them. They also decorated temples with pictures of the gods and made statues. The Greeks wrote myths about the gods. Some had happy endings and others didn't.
